A selection of short videos by Ziad Antar, Yael Bartana, Haris Epaminonda, Iman Issa, Hassan Khan, Rosalind Nashashibi, Shahryar Nashat, Ahmet Ögüt, and The Atlas Group reveal the weight of diverse histories in defining the current moment—whether manifest in the form of national myth, ritual, architecture, or pop culture. In the end, these are not static narratives; they are dynamic, promiscuous, enigmatic.

Works from the LUX collection in which artists' parents feature as subjectsand participants, willing and unwilling.

Anthea Kennedy's BAG OF A THOUSANDPOCKETS (2002) is a touching portrait of her father who's memory fails himas he remembers a long and eventful life.

Carl Callam's A PART OF ME (1998)explores the complexities of his life as a black man raised by a whitefoster parents through discussions with his foster mother and ever absentbiological mother.

Neil Goldberg's MY PARENTS READ DREAMS ABOUT THEM(1998) is as the title describes, Goldberg's parents read his comical andsurreal dreams, visibly affected by what they reveal about his relationshipwith them.

Marcin Koszalka's SUCH A NICE BOY I GAVE BIRTH TO (1999) is a painful and hilarious portrait of a family in meltdown as thefilmmaker's bohemian lifestyle violently clashes with his mother'sexpectations.

Bicycle Film Festival 2008

The Bicycle Film Festival is a celebration of bicycles through film, art and music which is currently accepting entries for films with a strong theme or character of bicycles. A fine thriller with one scene of a bicycle chase does not count. We encourage all films with these guidelines to enter:
All lengths 1 minute on up Short films under 10 minutes are easier to program for our popular shorts program. Of course all lengths are accepted and screened.

Submit a short film to Shortwave by Monday 14th April

Shortwave are planning a number of events for 2008. The first will be taking place on Sunday 4th May at 93 Feet East in Brick Lane. The 15 best short films and videos submitted by Monday 14th April will be screened and the audience able to vote for its favourite and prizes will be awarded.

All styles, topics and genre's are welcome (including music videos, animations and video art), the principle being that the idea is more important than the medium through which it is conveyed. Priority is always given to emerging and low budget talent. Please note that work lasting longer than 10 minutes is rarely screened.

All you have to do is send a DVD viewing copy, your contact details and a stamped addressed envelope to:

Get feedback on your doc-in-progress at a free DFG workshop Monday 3rd March 2008

10x10 is back for 2008 with a new look. This is a free workshop hosted by the Documentary Filmmakers Group and Doculink where filmmakers can screen up to ten minutes of their work-in-progress and receive ten minutes of feedback from the group. All that's needed now is for you to come along and get involved. It’s a great opportunity to gain support, get crucial feedback, meet your peers and feel part of the independent London doc community. It’s also a rare chance to see what others are working on and gain a hands-on perspective of what works, what doesn’t and why. Space is limited.
